Support the mental and physical wellbeing of children, young people and their families in Gloucestershire

Below are the common reasons why a referral might be rejected and what are your next steps.

Insufficient Information

Your referral needs as much detail as possible; otherwise, we cannot process it effectively. We need more information to allocate to a service, and this may mean a delay in accessing support.

Next Steps: Please resubmit the referral with as much detail as possible. We would much rather have too much information than not enough.

Age Constraints

Some of our programmes are age-specific due to funding criteria and do not always cover the 11-25 range. As a result, we can’t accept a referral if the young person is too young or old for the appropriate service.

Quite often when a young person is too young for our services we will signpost to TIC+ https://www.ticplus.org.uk/.

Next Steps: We will signpost to other services catering to their age group, and you will have to make a referral with that service.

Inadequate Support Level

In cases where we can’t provide the needed support, we have to decline the referral.

Next Steps: Where appropriate we will signpost to other services that may offer the required level of support.

Outside Service Area

We primarily serve those within the Gloucestershire/GL postcode.

Next Steps: Look for youth support services within your local area. Most Councils will keep a list of providers available in your area.

Existing Support

If the young person is already receiving support elsewhere that suits their needs, we avoid duplicating services.

Next Steps: Continue with the current service provider until the support finishes.

Already In Service

We can’t accept a new referral if the young person is already engaged with our services.

Next Steps: Discuss the progress and any additional needs with the current YG support worker, and we will discuss any potential internal reallocation.

Alternative Service Recommended

Another service provider might be more beneficial to support your young person.

Next Steps: We can provide recommendations and will signpost for alternative services in this circumstance.

High Risk Level

All our referrals are risk-assessed; sometimes, we may not be equipped to handle high-risk young people.

Next Steps: Seek specialised support services that manage high-risk or crisis situations.

Closed Waiting List

At times, the waiting list for a specific programme might be closed due to high demand.

Next Steps: You can check back later, or we can explore other programme options with other local service providers.

TALC Meeting Requirement

Some of our programmes about re-entering education and behaviour in education require a referral through a TALC meeting at the young person’s school. More information about the TALC process can be found here.

Next Steps: Speak to your young person’s school/education provider to see if you can organise a TALC meeting to obtain a referral for YG’s educational support.

Service Gap Requirement

We require a 6-month gap between support services for effective transition.

Next Steps: If applicable, wait for the six months to lapse before resubmitting a referral.

Consent Issues

Consent is crucial for processing a referral. However, sometimes referrals do not have consent.

Next Steps: Ensure consent is given and documented in the referral form.
