Issis’ life was really messy and she came to Young Gloucestershire looking for help

“My life is really messy and I came to Young Gloucestershire looking for help. I am an Asylum Seeker and arrived in the UK about a year ago. I left my home in Honduras. We are running from gangs and violence in our home. We have a business and the gangs hunt us for money. When I arrived in the UK I was so scared but there were no options for us and we are just looking for ways to survive. It has been very difficult since we came here, I live in a hotel now and people are not always friendly, people are so rude and no one helps. We had terrible food and I became very sick. I have felt so low and want to give up. We can’t work and I am not allowed to study. We can only volunteer and I look for many ways that I can find a break from my situation.”

“Young Gloucestershire has given me a chance. A chance to learn new skills and develop and meet people who are kind. I feel better here. I was nervous around other people my age but now I can begin to trust and see people are not all bad. I was a teacher in my country and working with Young Gloucestershire has helped me see again what I can do once I solve my situation.”

“People see us coming and coming and coming but they don’t know us. YG have been trying to help me as much as possible and have tried to understand our story. I have felt safe here, YG have shown me that not everyone is bad. They have given me some hope.”
