Support the mental and physical wellbeing of young people and their families in Gloucestershire

Regina has felt empowered by her experience of mentoring.

“It is not about the time you put in, but about the real results you will see and knowing you had a hand in helping that young person achieve their ambitions.

“It has felt great to share my knowledge with someone who is keen to learn. The experience has enabled me to reflect on my own style of teaching and has also inspired a research topic for my masters.

“It was a simple process to enrol and the training was interesting and useful. YG utilised my knowledge and skill base by pairing me with a young person, Sam, who was interested in my area of work.

“It has been a real pleasure to work with Sam and lots of fun. Sam was keen to talk but really lacked belief in herself. My role has changed throughout our meetings; helping Sam build her confidence with words of encouragement, prompting her to take action and giving her realistic advice. Seven months on and Sam has enrolled in a teacher training course at college, has a regular work placement and is holding down a part time job in retail. It’s great to see Sam with a plan for her future and aspirations of a career.”
