I am the Administrator at YG and every day is unique and I love the challenges my job brings. Day-to-day, I answer the phone and the door, open post, answer questions within YG and outside the organisations and anything else the day brings.

One of my major tasks is to manage our Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) provision. We offer this checking process for our own staff and also for lots of voluntary run organisations within Gloucestershire. I process the forms, make sure everything is complete, chase certificates and file copies of the DBS forms. It is important to make sure the service runs effectively to ensure organisations can operate safely.

I also create and write stories for YG’s e-newsletter every week. The email goes out to over 400 contacts. I include stories from YG, Partner Clubs, youth organisations, charities and the wider community. It’s a really useful tool to keep everyone working with young people in the loop; from funding to youth club stories.

I help with YG’s marketing as well, which includes our website. In my old organisation, as part of my role, I used to create websites and populate content and now I use my knowledge to answer questions, solve challenges and input content.

We have a database called Views to capture information about young people, sessions, partner organisations, youth clubs, and projects. We use it to create reports and statistics.

I help solve IT challenges, for instance last week there was a broken scanner so, in collaboration with our IT provider, we investigated and found the problem and it was up and running in no time at all.

Other tasks I have responsibility for includes procurement, vehicle maintenance, building issues, personnel admin from references to contracts, booking training, collating timesheets and lots more.

My role is about helping the office to run smoothly and effectively which means I can get up to all sorts. I love the feeling when I complete a task, solve a problem, and enjoy the friendliness from everyone at YG. I wake up every day and relish what the day will bring – I really love my job.
