Many students had their studies disrupted as part of the lock down to control the Covid-19 pandemic. Those in year 11 faced an abrupt end to what is an important year for them. Young Gloucestershire is here to help year 11's successfully move in to their next step of education, employment or training.
Transition Chat matches year 11 students with Youth Workers to offer a mentoring service providing advice and guidance about their next steps.
Who's it for?
The programme is for year 11's who have been identified by they school as having their next step plans impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
What can they expect?
The support has three stages to help bridge the gap between school and student's next steps.
- After being matched with a Youth Worker, students will begin meeting with them straight away to discuss their ambitions and concerns. Initial meetings will be virtual; online or on the phone and may include virtual tours of college campuses etc.
- We will continue to support students through the summer months, hopefully building up to face-to-face meetings as appropriate. Support can focus on building confidence, life skills and readiness for change.
- Following the summer, support will continue into November to ensure students remain happy in their next steps and settle in well to new routines.
