Young Gloucestershire Trustees

Young Gloucestershire has a board of nine trustees who are responsible for the governance of the organisation. The CEO reports directly into the Trustees.

Hugh Gladman - Chair

Hugh is the Group Legal Director and Company Secretary of St. James’s Place plc, the wealth management firm based in Cirencester, which specialises in investments, pensions and other wealth management services.  Prior to that, he was a lawyer working in the City with Herbert Smith.  His interests include mountain biking, tennis, hockey and skiing.

Mike Counsell

Mike was the previous Head of Gloucestershire Youth Service. Formerly County Youth Officer for Buckinghamshire, following a youth work career in Cambridgeshire and Somerset.

He is a member of the Board of the National Youth Agency and chair of the Agency’s Education and Training Standards Committee (ETS).  Also professional adviser to the national Joint Negotiating Committee for Youth and Community Workers.

Claire Townsend

Claire first got involved with YG back in the mid nineties
Claire is an HR Manager at Ecclesiastical Insurance, joined in 1988 from school, working her way up - Claire says she is very lucky to really enjoy her job and work with some great people.

Outside of work Claire enjoys amatuer dramatics with GODS (Glos Operatic Dramatic Society), voluntary work, eating out, eating in, wine tasting and is a member of CAMRA (Campaign for real ale)!

Nick Upton

Nick qualified as a Chartered Surveyor within the commercial spectrum of retail, industrial and offices.  He worked in London for some 16 years at major partnerships before leaving in 1982 to set up his own company in Cheltenham.

Nick is a member of the Cheltenham Business Partnership, a Bank of England quarterly Gloucestershire Review Panel and an active member of the Worcestershire Golf Club, the Bugatti/Delage/MG/AC Owners Club.

His interests are hugely varied, sailing, shooting, golf, gardening and vintage car activities.

Clive Ainsworth

Clive began his professional path with Marconi Instruments in St. Albans. Clive left Marconi after ten years and drove to South Africa where he joined Hewlett Packard.  After eight years in sales he was transferred to Hong Kong as MD of the local subsidiary.   Hewlett Packard transferred him back to the UK, where he became Finance Administration Director of the sales company.
Having run Krone UK for four years he “retired” from the corporate world and now splits his time between community support activities and consulting.  Clive is a consultant for Gloucestershire First supporting the Advanced Engineering / Manufacturing sector in the county.

Clive is a trustee of the High Sheriff of Gloucestershire Trust (CrimeBeat) and is also a trustee of the Gloucestershire Community Foundation.

His interest in Young Gloucestershire comes from that belief in people and people development at all levels, both from a personal interest and as an active supporter of the prosperous future of Gloucestershire.
